Chef Chan is a very renowed Cantonese Cuisine Restaurant, highly recommended by lots of food editors. And recently in newspaper, it was even listed within the top 50 lists of restaurant in Singapore.
By having such good reviews about this place, how could we give it a miss? So i chose this place for my belated birthday celebration with hubby Meow, and certainly, it is a very wrong move.
We were greeted by an Ancient dull looking place. Overloaded with too much scary looking antiques and the whole place is so dark with all the heavy colors wooden furnitures & not enough lightings ancient lamps.
Sitted at the corner of the restaurant with a pricey menu list, we lost the power of decision making. One lady waitress came over to give us recommendations, but we are kind of pissed off with her hard selling attitude as she tries means & ways to make us order super luxurious expensive items like Shark Fin, Lobster, Bird Nest & etc. Come on, don't make our life difficult, it's just a 2 pax simple dinner.
Finally we chose to order their signature dishes like Crispy Chicken, Lamb Rack and Cai Miao. And to be super frank, we were utterly disappointed with the dishes. Their white rice is not fragrant. The chicken though is crispy, it is quite dry & tasteless. The Lamb Rack just taste like a pc of tender dead meat, it didn't bring out the flavours of mutton, no spuring meat juice. The stir fry Cai Miao is also tasteless. How can a highly respected restaurant fail to even cook a simple stir fry vegetable?
To make our dinner even worse, our dessert Almond Soup taste like sugar syrup with undissolved almond powder. All dishes which we ordered and recommended by them, taste like craps. And to think we pay so much for this meal. Haiz.
Maybe we are just unlucky to have a bad chef day? Or is it really overrated by all the food critics? Well, this is our first visit and definitely the last.
