Seoul Garden

Seoul Garden used to be my (Oink) favourite secondary hangout makan place due to the cheap student prices and we can eat there for hours from lunch till dinner time, haha. But after i graduated and tried other makan places, I have stopped patronising Seoul Garden. I can't even remember when was the last time I stepped in, should be YEARS back.

Meow went to Seoul Garden last year for a poly gathering and he hated it. As after that, he suffered from diarrhoea for a few days, so pathetic.

But today, I manage to persuade him to go and eat at the Orchard Seoul Garden. Not that i'm craving for it, just that a lot of places that we would like to eat has to queue at least an hour when it's already 8pm. Seoul is the only place that still has empty seats.

When we are at the counter making payment while waiting to be seated, we are shocked at the bill of $55+ just for 2 pax. So expensive.

After getting ourselves a table, we walk around to choose our steamboat and teppanyaki stuffs. There are definitely more varieties as compared to the past but it still don't look tempting. We fill up one whole plate with different types of chicken meat and none of them taste good. Their ready made food is also not good. The kimchi has a really weird taste, sushi is horrible, steam soon kueh has a weird taste too. Only the fries are acceptable. As for the steamboat, the ginseng soup base has no ginseng taste, just that it's salty with lots of MSG.

We are so disappointed with the food and the teppanyaki smoke make us stink. Looking at the amount paid, we could have ate somewhere better. Haiz, think it would be another few more years later before we decide to step in here again.

Ting Yuan Steamboat

Steamboat is such a popular dining choice in singapore, even though it is such a warm & humid country. Almost every friday & weekends, you could see packed crowds at all the steamboat restaurants.

Sichuan Mala Steamboat is one of people's favourite choice. Hot spicy chilli oil that makes you perspire on every single bite. Of coz, not every steamboat restaurant can provide you authentic quality sichuan standard, you would have to make careful selection.

Ting Yuan, located around bugis area serves superb steamboat broth & food. It's standard of quality definitely stand out from the rest of the competitors located in that area. Very recommended.

Their business are so good that all 3 storeys are fully packed. Services are good & friendly as well, nevermind the fact that they run out of eggs the last time we went. And knowing that not all people could take the spicy sichuan mala steamboat, they also offer 3 other kind of broth "Chicken / Hot & Sour / Preserved Sour Veg". We swear by the Perserved Sour Veg Broth, so addictive!!

And just by paying $16.80+++ excluding drinks, you could order free flow of food out of their 40+ selection, so worth it ah.

The 2 of us, being self-proclaimed "not steamboat lovers", actually love to dine here. So, just imagine the magic & attraction of Ting Yuan can do to you. Thumbs UP!!

Golden Mile Tower Steamboat

6001 Beach Road
Singapore 199589
Basement

Ancient food centre which suvived for 50 years!! This place was first introduced to me by my colleagues Agatha and Christine. I have been there a couple of times, but I never ever notice that this old place attracts soooo many people. If you have ever get a chance to go there, be there early as there won't be empty seats waiting for you.

Oh don't expect a class A service here, apparently you have got to queue up for your own tables.
Actually not queue, the more appropriate word should be "GRAB".

Their famous steamboat with standard assortment of "food" and 'must try' beef slices, combined with the hainaness chicken, fragrant rice, plus satay, crispy prawn fritters, fried tofu and lime juices...! I better not put much high expectations for you first, as my visit there the second time wasn't as fulfilling.

Well, it is a good place for a good family gathering. The only dish which i really crave for is their hainaness chicken rice... so oily and nice.

Bugis Ma La Steamboat

Behind the back lane of Bugis

April 21, 2006

Met up with the gals FL, Ash & Serena whom have the cravings for steamboat. They source around Bugis and intended to queue at this stall @ $15 per pax.

It is very crowded and business is competitive with different steamboat stalls beside one another and huge PRICE signboards flashing.

We waited quite a while before we managed to get a seat behind of group of very vulgar abusive guys.

We chose the spicy ma la stock & the chicken broth, both tasted blend like plain water which is supposed to be the most important item in a steamboat. We went to choose our food in the super messy, cramp & dirty corner, selections are so limited.

It was still very warm even we are seated outdoor, think the heat made us perspire profusely. Trying drinking more cold water but even their drinks taste so diluted. *Shake Head*

Final Verdict: Spare me from the agony.
