Wan Chai Hong Kong Tea Room

Searching for very delicious hong kong food in Singapore? You just have to make a trip down to IMM to savour the best of hong kong cafe cuisine.

This place has been broadcast on the TV food queuing show, and it's definitely worth queuing for. We ordered their Hot & Spicy Minced Pork Noodle ($4.50), prawn paste chicken wings ($4.50), breakfast set B ($4) and almond jelly ($2.30).

Except for the almond jelly which tasted like factory made, all the other items are mouthwatering. We loved the minced pork noodle as the noodle is very Q, great texture and blends well with the minced pork. The piping hot prawn paste chicken though oily, it is very crispy. The breakfast set B consists of the milk tea, 2 half boil eggs and one thick toast with butter and pork floss. Eat it only when the thick butter soften, sinful but yummy.

Nothing to complain about. Good food at great value, worth it!!

Hong Kong Kim Gary Restaurant

1 HarbourFront Walk
Vivo City, #02-128
Singapore 098585

December 08, 2006

A brand new hong kong cafe eatery in this Singapore market, business is getting really competitive. But out of so many hong kong cafes, this Kim Gary is definitely one of the better ones which serves good affordable food.

Located at the brand new Vivo City, business is booming at this cafe with the neverending stream of crowds. It is our first visit here and is a bit disappointed by the fact that many items in the menu are still not available. But nevertheless, we make our dinner selection and we are assured by the waitress that these missing menu dishes will be here on our next visit.

Everything served to us is very home cooked style, which really reminds us of hong kong. One die die must try would be the Mushroom rice with shredded pork, though the portions are a bit miserable. The dish is so well done that every mouthful of rice + pork is a delight. Do smash up the egg and blend it in.

As for korean noodle, you could just give it a miss. Though the bowl looks really huge, the portions in there are damn pathetic. Bean sprouts more than noodles. But the 2 huge slices of pork chop in the noodle soup is superb. Tender and juicy.

The mango & coconut drink is really thick and the ice milo aka dinosaur is so sinful. But why bother about health when it taste so good.

Mango vs Milo

>> The bowl is even bigger than Oink's famous big head

Our Second Visit

>>This time round during lunch hour, the food portions served are too much for us to finish. Food quality still equally good. And indeed, those items not available on our 1st visit are now available on our 2nd visit, such as this baked curry.

Central Restaurant

Takashimaya Basement

June 30, 2006

Central Restaurant focus on the simple essence of Hong Kong Delicacies. But in reality, it is no where comparable to the food you find in Hong Kong.

I have eaten here twice, and both times, after one to two bites, I don't even feel like continuing to finish up the food as it just taste so bad. Food are blend, tasteless, oily & etc. Are they saving on MSG, salt? Or are they all not qualified chefs?

One more mouthful of their food, you will feel miserable the whole day.

Give this place a miss.

Tong Shui Cafe

54 Zion Road
Singapore 247759

June 14, 2006

A new eatery that pops out along the stretch of Zion Road, named as Tong Shui, cantonese way of saying those watery sweet dessert. It took over the previous nasi padang store, and revamp the whole place.

A very big signboard was hanged outside to attract customers, but I don't find it very pleasing to the eyes. Looks more like temple. The shop design wise, i think they are trying to make it look authentic, but kinda of mismatch everywhere.

They had a huge selection of food which makes you quite bothered on what to order. I have decided to order the recommendation which is the cheesy fried rice & milk tea. The cheese is good but the rice beneath is a hard, dry and tasteless. The milk tea is also tasteless, so blend. My colleague ordered the pork chop rice which he finds it not that fantastic, and another colleague of mine ordered a toast with baked beans.

Imagine waiting 30 mins or more for one slice of ordinary toast, yet all the staffs are busy chatting with one another & playing with a baby? Super poor service.

She was hoping it would be something good since she waited so long when we are the only customers. When it is served, it is just a thick bread with baked beans on top. She says the bread is cripsy on the outside, soft on the inside, but it is not something she would like to order again.

So what else can I say about this place? Poor decor, poor sevice, tasteless food. Failure.

2nd visit to this place is still as disappointing. Sort of being "conned" by their 1 for 1 set lunch gimmicks. Even maggi mee taste better than their nissin noodle. This would definitely be our last visit.
